Waukegan High School will host its 151st commencement exercises on Friday, May 17 at 5:30 p.m. at Weiss Field. An expected class of more than 900 students will make up the Waukegan High School’s Class of 2024.

 

Gates at Weiss Field will open at 4 p.m. Each graduate will be given four tickets for the ceremony. Seating arrangements will return to our pre-pandemic procedure, with graduates sitting together closer to the stage, and guests seated behind them on the field, or in the stands. No spectators will be admitted without a ticket. Families are asked to please arrive together if possible, as the saving of seats for others will not be permitted. The ceremony will be broadcast live on the District’s YouTube Channel. 


In the event of inclement weather, any rained-out graduation ceremony will be moved to Saturday, May 18 at 3 p.m. If a second date is rained out, further details will be shared. Students and families will be notified of any changes in scheduling by noon on graduation day.


Facts about the Class of 2024:

 

An estimated class of 901 students is expected to graduate on May 17.  


This year’s graduates have earned four-year scholarship offers totaling more than $94 million dollars, according to data from the school’s third-party reverse admissions platform. 

 

The Class of 2024 completed more than 1,931 college applications to institutions nationally and internationally.


Approximately 83% of graduating students will attend a college, university, military, or trade school in the fall, according to student surveys. 


Twenty-six graduates are members of the National Honor Society.

 

A total of 226 students will graduate with Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude or Cum Laude distinction.  

 

71 graduates will earn 72 Illinois Seal of Biliteracy or Illinois Commendation Toward Biliteracy awards.


A total of 18 students were selected as Illinois State Scholars by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission.


238 Class of 2024 students completed 609 Advanced Placement courses over the last four years. Six have been named by the College Board as AP Scholars.


A total of six Bulldog graduates were named North Suburban Conference Scholar Athletes.

Other top 10 students: Julissa Figueroa, Melissa Martinez, Fabiola Aguilera Tenorio, Manuel Sanchez-Garcia, Guadalupe Moreno Arreguin, Tava Perry, Jillian Castillo, and Kimberly Perez.
