Waukegan High School’s Washington/AOEC Campus Assistant Principal, Ms. Sheonta Myers, has been named the recipient of the Illinois Principals Association’s “Reaching Out and Building Bridges Award”, recognizing her as one of Lake County’s standout educational leaders.
This award recognizes an IPA principal or assistant principal, along with a partnering agency, association, or community member, who demonstrates exceptional commitment to building strong partnerships that support students and strengthen school communities. Ms. Myers was selected for her outstanding work in fostering meaningful connections between schools, families, and community organizations for the benefit of all.
“Receiving the Building Bridges Award reminds me that meaningful leadership is never done alone, Ms Myers said. “It reflects the collective work, dedication, and heart of the students, staff, and community I serve. I am honored and deeply humbled by this recognition.”
Ms. Myers is in her 16th year with Waukegan Public Schools. She previously taught 4th and 5th grade at Carman-Buckner Elementary, followed by roles as a Culture and Climate Specialist at Abbott Middle School and Assistant Principal at Miguel Juarez Middle School. For the past three years, she has served as Assistant Principal of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment at Waukegan High School.
The IPA Lake Region represents school administrators throughout Lake County. The Illinois Principals Association is a statewide leadership organization dedicated to developing, supporting, and advocating for innovative educational leaders.
