Celebrating Black History Month in District 60

Celebrating Black History Month in District 60
Posted on 02/03/2025

Throughout February, District 60 will proudly celebrate Black History Month by recognizing the rich history, achievements, and contributions of African Americans in our nation. This month serves as an opportunity for our schools and community to reflect on the innovation, and leadership that have shaped our society.

All through the month our schools will celebrate and study African-American history, culture, and leaders through various activities, lessons, and events. Families are encouraged to keep up with their school websites and social media accounts for updates on events and programs taking place throughout the month.

Our District's annual Black History Celebration will occur on Friday, February 21, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Waukegan High School - Brookside Campus. The theme of this year’s event is African Americans and Labor, and focuses on the various and profound ways that work intersects with the collective experiences of Black people. You can learn more about the event here.
