Special Recognitions and Presentations

-Representatives from My Brothers Keeper gave a presentation detailing their organization’s efforts. 

-The Waukegan High School athletics department recognized teams and athletes with outstanding achievements during the year. 

-Spotlight on 60 featured Hyde Park Elementary School. 

Action Items

-The Board of Education voted to approve the one-year emergency contract amendment with K-12 Elior for the 2022-2023 school year. In light of the recent change with the separation between Elior K-12 and Preferred Meals, resulting in Preferred Meals going out of business, ISBE has allowed the district to declare an emergency and will allow the district enter into an emergency contract.  This is only allowable for school year 2022-2023 and the District is  mandated to go through the Procurement process for school year 2023-2024. The School Board  previously approved a one year contract with Preferred Meals System, Inc. d/b/a K-12 Elior in the amount of $7,415,315.  This new contract will be with K-12 Elior only and will not increase the cost of the previously approved emergency contract at $7,415,315.

-The Board of Education voted to approve an agreement with Midwest Service Group to remove discovered asbestos containing materials to support mechanical improvements at Clearview, Little Fort, Washington, and Whittier Elementary in the amount of $119,935

Personnel Items

-The Board of Education voted to approve the appointments, retirements and resignations of 40 employees.

-The Board of Education voted to approve site-based budgeting FTE requests in the amount of $325,000.

-The Board of Education voted to  approve a 4% raise to all Non-Union personnel, with employees with single health insurance coverage only, contributing .32% of their pay towards single health coverage, and those with dependent coverage paying 35% of any increase in dependent rates from FY2022, per plan type, as determined by Blue Cross Blue Shield, the District's Insurance Carrier.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the Year 5 "Me Too Clause Provision" salary increase for members of the SEIU Custodial & Maintenance unit for school Year 2023, which is linked to the non-union District Administration, at a rate not to exceed 4%.The Board of Education and the SEIU agreed to terms on a 5 year contract effective July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2023.  Wage increases over the course of the five-year contract included 4%, 3% and 3% for years 1 through 3.  A "Me Too Clause" provision was put in place for years 4 and 5 linked to non-union District Administration. A 4% increase is recommended in alignment with the Non-Union Administration recommendation that is currently submitted for board approval.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the attendance of six Board Members and two staff at the 2022 National Association of School Board's CUBE Conference in Miami Florida, from September 29 to October 1, 2022 at a cost of $2,100, per person, which includes registration, airfare, lodging and per diem, for a total cost of $16,800. The following individuals will be attending the 2022 CUBE conference: Brandon Ewing, Rick Riddle, Anita Hanna, Charlotte Callahan Wozniak, Jeff McBride, Lucy Leguizamo, LeBaron Moten and Theresa Plascencia.

-The Board of Education reviewed versions of the following policies: 3202, Tuition for Non-resident Students; 3203, School Fees; 3204 School Fee Waivers First Reading Access.
