Waukegan High School will host its 149th commencement exercises on Thursday, May 19 and Friday, May 20. The events will begin each evening at 5:30 p.m. at Weiss Field. An expected class of more than 800 students will make up Waukegan High School’s Class of 2022.
Students are assigned to graduation ceremonies based upon their counselors.
On Thursday, May 19, students with the following counselors will graduate: Mr. McMillin, Ms. Kinert, Ms. Sonmez, Ms. Schlifke, Ms. Ruby, and Ms. Cribb.
On Friday, May 20, students with the following counselors will graduate: Ms. Jasnoch, Ms. Philip, Mr. Manning, and Ms. Bustamante.
Each graduate will be given four tickets for the ceremony. Graduates and two guests will sit together in a small pre-assigned cluster on the field. Additional tickets guests will be seated in the Weiss Field bleachers. No spectators will be admitted without a ticket. All ceremonies will be broadcast live on the District’s YouTube Channel.
In the event of inclement weather, any rained-out graduation ceremony will be moved to Saturday, May 21 at 5:30 p.m. If a second date is rained-out, further details will be shared. Students and families will be notified of any changes in scheduling by noon on graduation day.
Facts about the Class of 2022:
An estimated class of 812 students is expected to graduate the week of May 16.
This year’s graduates have earned scholarships totaling more than $18.6 million.
The Class of 2022 completed more than 1,923 college applications to institutions nationally and internationally.
Nearly 415 students will attend a college, university or trade school in the fall, according to student surveys.
Seventy-seven graduates are members of the National Honor Society.
A total of 273 students will graduate with Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude or Cum Laude distinction.
14 students were selected as Illinois State Scholars by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission.
69 graduates will earn 72 Illinois Seal of Biliteracy or Illinois Commendation Toward Biliteracy awards.
Forty-two students completed coursework, which earned them a total of 284 dual credit hours at WHS and the College of Lake County.
209 Class of 2022 students completed 522 Advanced Placement courses over the last four years.
