Dear Families,
As we continue to plan for next month’s reopening of schools, I want to take a brief opportunity to again stress the importance of welcoming back vaccinated staff and students. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has stated that the COVID-19 vaccine is the leading public health prevention strategy to end the pandemic, and the IDPH and the Illinois State Board of Education have issued guidance which makes it clear that vaccinated individuals are paramount to a school’s safe operation this fall.
We know many of our eligible staff members, students and parents/guardians have already received their COVID-19 vaccination, but for those who have not, there is still time. On Saturday July 31, our District is partnering with the Lake County Health Department to offer free COVID vaccines for those 12+ during our Back to School Resource Fair. The event will be hosted from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at People’s Choice Family Fun Center, 2650 Belvidere Road. Individuals interested in the vaccine are encouraged to register through the Lake County AllVax Portal, though pre-registration is not required.
With the first day of school on August 12 a little more than three weeks away, this is a perfect time to sign up yourself or your child for the first dose of the COVID vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control lists dozens of vaccine locations in and around Waukegan. You can search for a comprehensive list of vaccination sites using this link.

Mientras continuamos planificando la reapertura de las escuelas el próximo mes, quiero aprovechar una breve oportunidad para enfatizar nuevamente la importancia de dar la bienvenida al personal y a los estudiantes vacunados. El Departamento de Salud Pública de Illinois (IDPH por sus siglas en inglés) ha declarado que la vacuna COVID-19 es la principal estrategia de prevención de salud pública para poner fin a la pandemia, y el IDPH y la Mesa Directiva de Educación del Estado de Illinois han emitido una guía que deja en claro que las personas vacunadas son primordial para el funcionamiento seguro de una escuela este otoño.
Sabemos que muchos de nuestros miembros del personal elegibles, estudiantes y padres/tutores ya han recibido su vacuna COVID-19, pero para aquellos que no lo han hecho, todavía hay tiempo. El sábado 31 de julio, nuestro Distrito se asociará con el Departamento de Salud del Condado de Lake para ofrecer vacunas COVID gratuitas para personas mayores de 12 años durante nuestra Feria de Recursos de Regreso a Clases. El evento se llevará a cabo de 9 a.m. a 2 p.m. en People's Choice Family Fun Center, 2650 Belvidere Road. Se anima a las personas interesadas en la vacuna a registrarse a través del Portal AllVax del Condado de Lake, aunque no es necesario registrarse previamente.
