Waukegan Parents/ Guardians,

In a typical year, Waukegan Public Schools utilizes the NWEA MAP test to assess students in grades 3-8 in the areas of English Language Arts and Math three times during the course of a school year (fall, winter, and spring). This information is useful to inform classroom instruction and determine what students know at a given point in time as we progress through our curriculum.

In early September, our district administered a beginning of the year (BOY) NWEA MAP assessment to assist with identifying learning gaps our students potentially experienced since last Spring.  Due to a variety of factors, the results of the assessment were inconsistent and did not produce valid results for many students.

The middle of the year (MOY) window traditionally serves as our time to learn where our students stand after a half year of instruction, as well as collect data that will be used for programming for next school year. Due to the current pandemic, the Academics Supports and Programs (ASAP) Team recognizes that administering a middle of the year (MOY) NWEA MAP assessment to all students remotely would be challenging.  Therefore, schools will not be administering our middle of the year (MOY) NWEA MAP at this time.

Individual school sites will have the ability to assess students on the NWEA MAP assessment in instances where this information is required in order to meet the needs of individual students.

As a district, we will continue to focus on providing students with high quality-instruction daily and the interventions necessary to master our current curriculum.  Student progress will be gauged utilizing curriculum based assessments, quizzes, and other methods of determining student mastery towards learning objectives.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment and unwavering support to our students and the district.

Sincerely,

Eduardo Cesario

Deputy Superintendent

__________

Sinceramente,

Eduardo Cesario

Superintendente Adjunto
