Waukegan Public Schools is launching a new Virtual Parent Workshop Series this month through our Family and Community Engagement department aimed at strengthening at home learning.

Sessions will cover a variety of subjects, including literacy, mathematics, art, and health. Staff will host these sessions every Thursday live on the District’s Facebook page.

As part of the series, WPS60 educators will review curriculum objectives and demonstrate how to teach those objectives at home in a fun manner.  Families will learn general information on what their child should know, activities to support learning at home, and how to create learning games. They can then ask questions and sign up for more in depth sessions.

The series begins on Thursday, December 10 with Literacy Q&A Session, at 5:30 p.m. on Facebook Live. Staff will focus on teaching parents methods to support their child's literacy skills at home through various activities and learning games.

In addition to hosting the workshops, staff will also distribute supplies such as construction paper, markers, watercolor paints, and more, which will assist students and parents. Material distribution events are planned for Tuesday, December 8 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Wednesday, December 9 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Miguel Juarez Middle School. Families do not need the materials to participate in the live workshops but will be able to create games and do the activities with them.
