Waukegan Community Unit School District # 60 was recently recognized with eight communication awards in the Illinois Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association's annual communications contest.

The District's highest honor was awarded in the Social Media Campaign category, where staff were awarded an Award for Excellence for the Foreman Frankie campaign. Foreman Frankie is a miniature construction worker who visits ongoing District construction projects to showcase improvements occurring around Waukegan schools.

Judges applauded the Foreman Frankie campaign for being unique and informative, with one judge stating: “Super creative and informative. Attractive to the audience. On the mark.” Staff members Nicholas Alajakis, Mitchell Riportella and now-retired Director of Operations, Otis Hickman, were recognized for their work with Frankie.

Several other communications awards were won by District 60. A full list of awards, categories, and recognized employees can be found below.
