Students across the District will have an opportunity to experience new fruit and vegetable options, thanks to the Illinois State Board of Education’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP).

Thirteen Waukegan Schools were again selected as recipients of the annual grant, totaling more than $300,000. The FFV program’s goal is to provide free fresh fruits and vegetables to students outside of regular school meals. As a result of continued school closures, all District 60 students will have access to the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable menu during Tuesday and Thursday free meal distribution events.

Every week, two new fruit or vegetable options will be introduced to students, along with information sheets on the benefits of each item. The fruit and veggies will be distributed along with the regular meal options each Tuesday and Thursday at 116 locations across the community, as well as at the Brookside  Campus drive-thru. A complete list of sites, a map and more can be found here, and complete lunch and FFVP menus can be found here
