Message Regarding 214 Washington Street

Dear Waukegan Community:
I am writing you today to share some exciting news about the future of academic, community and administrative facility use in Waukegan Public Schools. During its Regular Meeting on September 10, our Board of Education voted to enter into a purchase sale agreement of the building at 214 Washington Street in downtown Waukegan. This 37,000 sq ft building at the corner of Washington and Genesee, is the site of the former First Midwest Bank location.
Our Board approved the $700,000 agreement with the intention of using the six story building to more efficiently house our central office and student support services and better serve our staff, students and families.
This planned transition to the downtown building will open up some exciting opportunities to fully-utilize space at our Lincoln Center building. We have a vision of creating updated spaces for student learning, professional development, staff training, and parent engagement. While we believe this plan will best serve the Waukegan community, we want to ensure that the future of Lincoln Center is built in the vision of all stakeholders.
In the upcoming weeks and months we will be creating a Design Committee comprised of parents, staff and community members, who will help develop a future for the Lincoln Center by identifying the most impactful use of the building. We hope some of you will be a part of this process, as we work hand-in-hand to create a better Waukegan Public Schools for future generations of students, parents and staff members.
