STARS is an afterschool program geared toward helping students
achieve academically, socially and provides a safe place for
students while parents are working. What makes STARS successful is
our approach to a healthy balanced program. First and foremost is
the academic assistance to help students learn and understand the
importance of education. The second thing is "Life Skills", which
provides students with the needed social tools to navigate through
our ever changing world. Finally, we offer various enrichment
opportunities such as: learning how to fish, ice skate, do sign
language, build clocks, play sports, graphic design, and much much
more! Students love STARS because we go out of our way to provide
activities of high interest.
District 60 currently runs three STARS Title IV grant funded
programs. One program is focused for the elementary student level,
one at the middle school level and the last at the high school
level. At the conclusion of the 2011-2012 year, two of our three
grants will be concluding. (Elementary and High School) We will
actively pursue other funding opportunities to continue the before
and after school programs.
We currently serve 9 schools participating which include: Glen
Flora Elementary, Clearview Elementary, Webster Middle School,
Abbott Middle School, Jefferson Middle School, Jack Benny Middle
