Extended School Year Services

POLICY

Extended school year services shall be provided to each special education student whose unique needs require special education and related services in excess of the regular school year in order for the student to receive a free appropriate public education. The District or a child’s IEP Team shall not limit the provision of extended school year services to children with a particular category or categories of disability or unilaterally limit the type, amount, or duration of those services.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Definition

Extended school year services are special education and related services, which are provided by the School District to an IDEA eligible student with a disability beyond the School District’s regular school year in accordance with the child’s IEP at no cost to the student’s Parent(s) and which meets the standards of the Illinois State Board of Education.

Eligibility

Each special education student’s IEP Team shall determine and note in the student’s IEP whether the student requires extended school year services, in accordance with the IDEA and ISBE standards and regulations. When applicable, the student’s IEP Team shall determine the type, amount, and/or duration of the services necessary as part of the child’s extended school year program on an individualized basis.
