Negotiations Adjourn for the Evening; Union Continues To Make No Effort To Compromise; Schools To Remain Closed on Thursday, October 23, and Friday, October 24

Negotiations adjourned for the day at approximately 6 pm. No progress was made as the Union put forth no proposals that showed a good faith effort to negotiate. Due to the continuing Teachers’ Union strike, there will be no school on Thursday, October 23, or Friday, October 24. The District’s Food Service department is federally-mandated to provide fresh food and milk for our students and needs at least 48 hours to acquire sufficient stores of each.   READ MORE...
United Way of Lake County Helps Coordinate Important Food Resources During Strike

United Way of Lake County (UWLC) is aware that thousands of families affected by the District 60 school strike in Waukegan are in need of additional food resources to compensate for the meal programs their students rely on at school for daily nutritional needs. United Way is responding to meet this immediate need by sponsoring the costs to increase the food supply available at participating food banks in Waukegan, IL.   READ MORE...
Negotiations Continue; Board Committed to Fair Resolution Despite the Union’s Unwillingness to Compromise

The Board feels its current offer, which would provide salary increases in year one of 3.9 % and 5.75 % to teachers in Tiers 1 and 2 respectively, while also providing 100 % fully-funded single premium health care coverage for the first two years of the new contract, is a fair one, and is one that would be financially sustainable. However, the Union remains steadfast to what they consider an “entitlement” to free single premium healthcare asking for the Board to finance coverage beyond the two years the Board has offered.   READ MORE...
Negotiations Resume; Schools to Remain Closed on Wednesday, October 22

Negotiations between the Board of Education and the Teachers’ Union resumed this morning at 9 a.m. and they remain at the table at this hour. Despite a committed effort from both parties, no additional resolutions have been reached today and schools will remain closed on Wednesday, October 22. Negotiations Adjourn for Day; Sides Still at Odds on Financials

Following nearly 13 hours of negotiations today, representatives from the Board of Education and the Teachers’ Union adjourned for the evening just before 10 p.m., without yet reaching a full resolution. The sides exchanged a number of counter proposals during today’s session, and also held a series of sidebars related to salary, benefits and contract duration. Although positive dialogue did occur through sidebars, the two sides remain at odds on financial items, including salary increases.  READ MORE...
