Greenwood to Unveil Contents of Time Capsule This Weekend

Press Release: 04-23-2012

Greenwood Elementary School will take a trip back in time this weekend, when the school unveils the contents of a 20-year-old time capsule buried near the front entrance of the school.

Current and former students and staff are invited to the unveiling, which will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, at the school, 1919 North Avenue. The event is an opportunity for the Greenwood community to come together and reminisce, while enjoying refreshments and taking part in a silent auction to benefit the creation of a new time capsule to be opened in 2032.

The main event, however, will be the opening of a time capsule that was buried on April 24, 1992. At the time, staff and students filled the capsule with items for which they wanted to be remembered by. Ms. Robin Haney, an Intervention Specialist at Greenwood, was a second grade teacher at the school when the time capsule was buried. She recalls her students placing an audio recording done by the class into the capsule.

“I think a lot of people are going to be excited to see what was in there. We didn’t make a list of what was in there, so it’ll be a surprise,” Ms. Haney said.
