Waukegan Students to Perform with Kenny Rogers on Stage at Genesee Theatre

Press Release: 12-09-2011

Student singers from Waukegan High School and Cooke Magnet School will join world famous singer/songwriter Kenny Rogers on stage during his upcoming concert at the Genesee Theatre in Waukegan.

Six students from Cooke and 40 members of the WHS varsity Choir will accompany Kenny Rogers during his “Christmas and Hits Tour” on Tuesday, December 13. Students will be joining in on many of the holiday songs. Cooke and WHS students will be on stage along with Kenny Rogers for “Joy to the World,” The Chosen One” and “Silent Night.” Cooke students will join him separately for “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” and “Closing of the Year.” The WHS choir will join Kenny Rogers on stage for “O Holy Night” and “We Three Kings.”

During his holiday tour, Kenny Rogers routinely invites students from local schools to join him on stage during the show. The anticipation of performing with a world-famous singer in front of a large audience has kept students at both schools busy in rehearsals.

“The students are excited to sing at the Genesee and to play with a professional artist, especially one as popular as Kenny Rogers. This will be a wonderful experience for all of the students and it’s great exposure for the music programs in our District and for the Waukegan High School choir,” said Ms. Lori Massimo, Fine Arts/Foreign Languages and Library Services Division Head at Waukegan High School.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on December 13. Tickets are available at the Genesee box office, all Ticketmaster outlets, online at Ticketmaster.com, or charge-by-phone at 800-982-2787. Friends and family of students performing can receive a $5 discount at the theater box office.
