The Board of Education officially approved a contract with architectural firm Fanning Howey to complete professional, architectural, engineering, design and planning services at 12 District schools.

The contract is part of the $37 million State Capital Development Board Grant project, which will add classroom space at 12 Waukegan Community Unit School District # 60 elementary schools. The projects calls for 16 classroom additions at Washington Elementary and Whittier Elementary, 12 classroom additions at Glen Flora Elementary, and eight classroom additions at Carmen-Buckner Elementary, Greenwood Elementary, North Elementary, Clearview Elementary, Glenwood Elementary, McCall Elementary, Hyde Park Elementary, Little Fort Elementary and Oakdale Elementary.

The Board voted to approve the contract with Fanning Howey following lengthy conversations and negotiations regarding a number of topics, including on-site observations, minority hiring, and the use of local contractors and tradesmen.
