Press Release: 07-11-2011
All Community Unit School District # 60 summer school programs have been canceled for Tuesday, July 12, due to continued recovery from Monday’s violent thunderstorms. District offices will be closed to the general public as well.
As cleanup efforts and power restoration efforts continue throughout the Waukegan area, District 60 officials announced they would be canceling summer school programs at AOEC, Clearview Elementary, McCall Elementary, Juarez Middle School and Waukegan High School – Brookside Campus.
Many of these sites remain without power Monday evening, and no immediate timetable is available for power restoration. One site with power – Miguel Juarez – is being used as emergency shelter for families from a Waukegan apartment complex that suffered major storm damage.
High school students will be required to make up the missed day of classes. The cancellation does not affect the final day of classes for elementary or middle school summer school students.
District 60 maintenance and custodial staff are required to report to work. Office workers are not expected to report to work unless they have a role in emergency response or a need to perform an essential service.
Updates on school and office closures will be available on District 60’s website, www.wps60.org.
