Press Release: 01-18-2012
The Waukegan Community Unit School District # 60 Board of Education and the Waukegan Council of the Lake County Federation of Teachers are pleased to announce both parties have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract.
The agreement comes after eight months of negotiations between both sides. An official accord was reached at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18. Members of the Waukegan Council of Teachers are expected to vote to ratify the agreement January 30.
“The Union negotiation team is pleased that we have been able to come to this agreement following a long and arduous negotiating process,” said Teachers Union President, Ms. Kathy Schwarz.
Details of the agreement are not being released at this time, as the contract still needs to be officially ratified by the Union Membership and approved by the Board of Education. The Board will vote on the agreement at its January 31 meeting.
“I would be less than honest if I said this was an easy process; but in the end, I believe that both sides made concessions and sacrifices that will benefit the students of Waukegan, and the quality of instruction being offered in our schools. District 60 leaders greatly value the 1,100 teachers as the lifeblood of this District, and we look forward to working together harmoniously in the foreseeable future,” said District Superintendent Dr. Donaldo R. Batiste.
