Press Release: 11-16-2011
The Student Council at Thomas Jefferson Middle School is seeking community support during its annual coat drive. The appropriately titled “Operation: Give a Kid a Coat” launched earlier this month, and runs through December 2.
The Student Council is collecting coats and other winter accessories for Mt. Moriah Christian Center in Waukegan. In the drive’s first 10 days more than three dozen new and gently used coats have been donated at Jefferson, and at the North Shore Unitarian Church in Lake Forest, which is assisting the Student Council with the coat drive.
Now in its third year, Operation: Give a Kid a Coat has collected more than 100 coats for the community since its inception.
“The students’ mission is to do community service for their neighbors in Waukegan. They understand that some families are less fortunate, and they want to do what they can to help them,” said Ms. Carol Gimondo, the Student Council Sponsor at Jefferson.
Donations can be can be dropped off at the school, 600 S. Lewis, in Waukegan, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on school days.
