Press Release: 07-19-2011

With the start of the new school year a little more than a month away, Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 Superintendent Dr. Donaldo R. Batiste has unveiled the District’s new progressing motto for the 2011-12 academic and fiscal year.

For the 2011-12 school year, the motto will be: “A New Day…A New Way in Waukegan Public Schools… students first!”

The new motto emphasizes the number one goal of District 60, which is to provide a quality and unparalleled education to the students of Waukegan. The motto symbolizes the importance of putting the interests and wellbeing of students above everything else in the District. The motto is also a commitment to the Waukegan community that District 60 will do whatever is necessary to ensure that students’ best interests are recognized, addressed and continuously monitored.

“As educators, we are currently facing a number of economic and social challenges. But as we progress through these struggles and obstacles, it is imperative that everyone involved in the educating of our students put aside their personal interests and agendas, to make selfless decisions that benefit our students. It is only then that we can truly embrace our new motto, and put students first,” said Dr. Batiste.

Since his appointment as Superintendent, Dr. Batiste has set the tone each year with a motivating theme and progressing motto for District students, staff and Cabinet members. The theme, "A New Day...A New Way in Waukegan Public Schools..." has remained constant, while the motto changes each successive year.
